Garbage TD
Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 1, 2026
This policy explains what information Garbage TD (“the game”, “we”, “us”), a mixed-reality tower defense game for Meta Quest, uses, why, and the choices you have. We built the game to need as little of your information as possible.
The short version
- You don't create an account with us. There are no ads, no analytics and no tracking in the game.
- Your progress and settings are saved only on your headset.
- The game doesn't use your microphone, doesn't receive camera images and doesn't scan your room.
- Online games send the other player what they need to play with you (your Meta name, your moves, and where your head and hands are) through Unity's multiplayer services.
- We don't sell your information or share it for advertising.
1. Information the game uses
Saved on your headset
The game saves your progress (unlocked worlds and stars), your game in progress so you can pick it up later, and your settings (such as passthrough or virtual room, and sound volume). This is stored only in the game's storage on your headset. It is never sent to us, and it is removed when you uninstall the game.
Head, hand and controller tracking
Meta Quest tracks your head, hands and controllers. While you play, the game uses these positions to let you grab raccoons, press buttons and move the board. The game doesn't store this tracking data or send it to us. In an online game, the position of your head and hands relative to the board is sent to the other player, so they can see you as a raccoon avatar (see Online play).
Passthrough and your room
In mixed reality the game shows your room using Meta Quest passthrough, which is handled by the headset itself. The game doesn't receive camera images, and it doesn't ask for or use room scans, spatial data or scene data: the board simply floats wherever you put it.
Microphone
The game doesn't use your microphone. There is no voice chat.
Your Meta account
When the game starts, it uses Meta's Platform SDK to check that your Meta account owns the game, and to read your Meta display name (or username), which is shown to the other player in online games. When you host an online game, the game tells Meta which game lobby you're in, so friends you invite through Meta can join you. Inviting friends uses Meta's own invite panel: the game does not receive your friends list, your email address or other details of your Meta account.
When you email us
If you contact support, we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message. We use it only to answer you and to fix the problem you report.
2. Online play
Playing online is optional. Single-player games don't connect to any multiplayer service.
Online games (invite, join code, quick match)
These use Unity Gaming Services, provided by Unity Technologies: Authentication, to sign you in anonymously with a random player ID (no name, email or password); Multiplayer Sessions and Lobby, to create games, look up join codes and find a quick match; and Relay, to pass game messages between the two players. To provide this, Unity processes your anonymous player ID and technical connection data such as your IP address. While a game lobby is open, Unity also holds the lobby's details, including the display names of the players in it.
During an online game, the game sends the other player:
- your display name and whether you're ready;
- the chosen world, difficulty and game mode;
- your moves: raccoons you place, upgrade, sell or aim, waves you start, and what you send in versus;
- pings you place on the board;
- the position of your head and hands around the board (about 15 times a second), and whether you have the Meta menu open.
This goes only to the other player in your game. We don't run our own servers, and we don't record or store your games.
Same Wi-Fi games
A “Same Wi-Fi game” connects the two headsets directly over your local network, without Unity's multiplayer services. The host's local network address (such as 192.168.1.23) is shown on the host's screen so the other player can type it in to join.
3. Services we rely on
These companies process information under their own privacy policies:
Meta Platforms Technologies
Meta Quest, the Meta Horizon Store, ownership checks, display names and friend invites. Your headset and Meta account also collect information under Meta's policies, which we don't control.
Meta Privacy PolicyUnity Technologies
Unity Gaming Services for online play: anonymous sign-in, multiplayer sessions, lobbies and relay.
Unity Game Player and App User Privacy Policy4. What we don't do
- We don't show ads or use advertising or analytics SDKs.
- We don't sell your personal information or share it for targeted advertising.
- We don't build profiles of you or track you across other apps or websites.
- We don't collect your microphone audio, camera images or room data.
This website doesn't use cookies or analytics either. Like any website, our host (Netlify) and the font service (Google Fonts) receive standard technical data such as your IP address in order to deliver the pages.
5. How long information is kept
- On your headset: until you delete the game or clear its data.
- Online games: we don't keep anything. Unity keeps its anonymous player IDs and service logs according to its own policy, and deletes a lobby once it's no longer in use.
- Support emails: as long as we need them to help you, and then we delete them.
6. Your choices and rights
- Play offline: single-player games don't use Unity's multiplayer services.
- Delete your progress: uninstall the game, or clear its data in your headset's settings.
- Make a request: depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the EU and UK, or under California law), you may have the right to access, correct or delete your personal information, or to object to how it's used. Because we hold almost nothing about you, the quickest way is to email us and we'll help, including with requests that involve the services above.
You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
7. Children
Garbage TD is made for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Meta's own rules apply to who can use a Meta Quest account. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, for example by email, contact us and we'll delete it.
8. Security and international transfers
We keep what we hold to a minimum and rely on the security of Meta's and Unity's services for online features. No method of storing or sending information is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect it. Meta and Unity may process information in the United States and other countries; they describe how they protect it in their policies linked above.
9. Changes to this policy
If the game changes how it uses information (for example, if we add voice chat), we'll update this page and the “Last updated” date at the top.
